AMI Installation

Installing the AMI is one of the easier retrofits in the A8 and can be fitted easily in under 10 minutes.

Suitable Cars

The AMI Interface fits Audi vehicles with MMi High 2G Only, in general any A8 from MY2003 with MMi 2G will be OK, though on early models it may be a requirement to update your MMi Firware to a higher version

MMI Firmware Versions

If your firmware is 2750 or below, you may need to update it to at least aminimum of 3360, while your there you may as well update to whichever is the latest for your reqion. Remeber this needs to be done before you remove the CD Player for good.

Component Protection

There is no component protection on the AMI unit, though if you update your fimware to 5570 it is possible that Component protection will kick in, dependant on what is updated.

Finding Parts

Ebay is a good source for these though they can be purchased direct from audi at various prices.

Before you start, decide on which of the options you need, there are 3 different cables available

  1. The Ipod cable
  2. The usb cable for harddrives (mini male USB)
  3. Female USB for pendrives
  4. 3.5mm male jack Audio Cable (for other MP3 players)
  5. Micro USB

additional to this is a bluetoooth adapter which plugs in to the female USB Cable

Also there is an Audi 250Gig hard drive or 500GB version, though any hard drive that works from USB power should work.

Installation

first decide if you want to keep the audi CD player, to be honest its only required for MMI updates so if you already have the latest version you shouldnt need it, but some like to have both.

If you do want to keep it you will need to slide out the small felt insert to the right of the CD Player (on RHD Models) and use the fibre optic bridge connector.

To install (instead of the CD Player)

Note: despite some saying you must remove the glove box this isnt required.

To Install with the CD player

You will need to connect the optical bridge, and possibly use VagCom to initialize the position, but in most cases this works without more coding.

Note: Some have reported that the media position nearest the driver is not as deep as it needs to be to fit the CD Player (should you wish to keep both and move the CD Player nearer the driver)
